The Hawke Vantage 400 Laser Range Finder - 6x21 is a compact and straightforward handheld range finder designed for shooters and hunters who want fast, accurate distance measurement without paying for more ranging capability than they need. With 6x magnification, a 21mm objective lens and a maximum range of 400 metres, it is particularly well suited to air rifle shooting, pest control, rimfire use and general field ranging.
The Vantage 400 combines fully multi-coated optics with an easy-to-read LCD display and a choice of Standard, Horizontal Distance, Angle, Rain and Hunt modes. The integrated inclinometer also allows the unit to calculate horizontal distance when shooting uphill or downhill, making it considerably more useful than a simple line-of-sight range finder.

RANGING MODES EXPLAINED
Standard: Measures the direct line-of-sight distance between the range finder and target. Continuous ranging can also be used to update the distance while scanning.
Horizontal Distance: Calculates the horizontal component of the measured distance, particularly useful when ranging targets positioned uphill or downhill.
Angle: Displays the angle between the range finder and target, helping you understand the degree of incline or decline.
Rain: Helps reduce interference caused by rainfall when measuring targets in poor weather conditions.
Hunt: Helps ignore foreground interference from grass, branches and vegetation when ranging a target positioned beyond it.
HORIZONTAL DISTANCE & ANGLE MEASUREMENT
The Vantage 400 includes an inclinometer that measures the angle between the shooter and target as well as the direct line-of-sight distance.
Horizontal Distance mode uses this information to calculate the horizontal component of the measurement. This is especially useful when shooting uphill or downhill, where the horizontal distance can be different from the direct measured distance.
COMPARE HAWKE VANTAGE RANGE FINDERS
| Model | Optics | Max Range | Display |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vantage 400 | 6x21 | 400m | LCD |
| Vantage 600 | 6x21 | 600m | LCD |
| Vantage 900 | 6x21 | 900m | LCD |
All three Vantage models use the same compact 6x21 optical format and LCD display. The key difference is maximum ranging distance: 400m, 600m or 900m.
WHICH VANTAGE MODEL SHOULD I CHOOSE?
Vantage 400: Best suited to shorter-range shooting, air rifle use, pest control and general field ranging where 400 metres is more than enough.
Vantage 600: A useful middle option for customers who want additional distance capability without stepping up to the 900.
Vantage 900: The longest-ranging model in the Vantage line-up, providing up to 900 metres of measuring capability while retaining the same compact 6x21 format.
VANTAGE VS ENDURANCE
The Vantage range uses an LCD display, while Hawke's Endurance range uses a red illuminated OLED display designed to remain more visible against changing backgrounds and in varying light conditions.
If you want straightforward ranging with Horizontal Distance and Angle measurement at a lower price, the Vantage range is a strong choice. If an illuminated OLED display or greater maximum ranging distance is important, consider the Hawke Endurance range.
IS THE VANTAGE 400 RIGHT FOR ME?
The Vantage 400 is particularly well suited to air rifle shooting, rimfire use, pest control and general countryside applications where very long-distance ranging is unnecessary.
Its 400 metre capability is more than enough for many practical shooting situations, while the compact 6x21 format, Horizontal Distance mode and angle measurement provide useful functionality without paying extra for range you may never use.
BATTERY & POWER
The Hawke Vantage 400 is powered by a single CR2 3V lithium battery. An automatic shut-off function helps conserve battery power when the range finder is left inactive.
