THERMAL SENSOR & IMAGE QUALITY
The QUEST H50R uses a high-resolution 640×512 thermal sensor with a 12μm pixel pitch and an excellent ≤15mK NETD rating.
Its high thermal sensitivity allows the sensor to distinguish very small temperature differences, helping preserve detail when there is limited thermal contrast between a heat source and the surrounding environment.
This is particularly useful in difficult conditions such as damp weather, mist and environments where the background temperature is relatively close to that of the subject.
A fast 60Hz refresh rate keeps movement smooth while scanning or following moving animals. NocPix R+ image processing and Electronic Image Stabilisation further enhance image clarity and stability.
50MM F1.1 LENS & LONG-RANGE VIEWING
The H50R pairs its 640×512 sensor with a 50mm F1.1 germanium objective lens and 4× base magnification.
This produces a more magnified native image than the QUEST H35R, allowing distant heat sources to appear larger before digital magnification is applied.
The resulting 8.8° × 7.0° field of view covers approximately 15 × 12 metres at 100 metres. Although narrower than the H35R, this is a deliberate trade-off in favour of greater native image scale at distance.
For large fields, open farmland and other environments where observation routinely takes place at longer distances, the H50R is the distance-focused model within the 640×512 QUEST range.
2,600M DETECTION RANGE
NocPix specifies a maximum detection range of up to approximately 2,600 metres for the QUEST H50R.
Detection range describes the ability of the thermal system to detect the presence of a suitably sized heat source under appropriate conditions. It should not be confused with the distance at which fine identification will always be possible.
The combination of the 50mm objective, 4× base magnification and 640×512 sensor makes the H50R particularly well suited to searching larger areas and detecting distant heat sources.
1,000M INTEGRATED LASER RANGEFINDER
The QUEST H50R incorporates a concealed laser rangefinder with a manufacturer-stated ranging capability of up to 1,000 metres.
This allows the distance to an observed subject to be measured directly through the binocular without needing to switch to a separate handheld rangefinder.
The concealed design also allows the QUEST to retain its streamlined traditional binocular shape without a large external LRF module.
H50R vs H35R vs S50R
| Specification | H35R | H50R | S50R |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sensor | 640×512 | 640×512 | 1280×1024 |
| Pixel Pitch | 12μm | 12μm | 12μm |
| NETD | ≤15mK | ≤15mK | ≤15mK |
| Lens | 35mm F0.9 | 50mm F1.1 | 50mm F1.1 |
| Magnification | 3–24× | 4–32× | 2–16× |
| FOV @ 100m | 22 × 18m | 15 × 12m | 30 × 24m |
| Best Suited To | All-round / mixed terrain | Long-range / open ground | Maximum image quality & wide scanning |
H35R: uses the same 640×512 sensor as the H50R but combines it with a shorter 35mm lens and 3× base magnification. Its wider 22 × 18m field of view makes it the more versatile option for mixed terrain.
H50R: moves to a 50mm objective and 4× base magnification. The narrower 15 × 12m field of view gives distant heat sources greater native image scale and makes it particularly effective across open ground.
S50R: is a fundamentally different step up, using a flagship 1280×1024 sensor. Despite using a 50mm lens, it provides a much wider 30 × 24m field of view at 100m while retaining extremely high thermal detail.
WHY CHOOSE THE QUEST H50R?
The H50R is the QUEST model to choose when your observation is predominantly carried out across larger, more open areas.
It uses the same excellent 640×512, ≤15mK thermal sensor as the H35R, but the 50mm objective and 4× base magnification create a more distance-orientated image.
That means the decision between the H35R and H50R is not simply about one having a better sensor – the sensor specification is the same. The choice comes down largely to field of view versus native magnification.
Choose the H35R when wider-area scanning and versatility are more important. Choose the H50R when distant subjects and large open ground make higher native magnification more useful.
DISPLAY, RECORDING & 64GB STORAGE
The QUEST H50R uses a high-resolution 1920 × 1200 round display system designed to provide a natural and immersive binocular viewing experience.
A 10mm exit pupil and 25mm eye relief help make prolonged observation comfortable, while the traditional dual-eye configuration avoids the repeated single-eye viewing associated with a conventional thermal monocular.
The H50R also incorporates 64GB of internal storage and supports photo, video and microphone recording, allowing observations to be captured directly on the device.
BATTERY & RUNTIME
The QUEST H50R uses a dual-battery system consisting of a built-in 4200mAh battery and a replaceable rechargeable 18650 battery.
The replaceable battery can be swapped in the field while the built-in battery maintains power, helping reduce interruption during longer observation sessions.
NocPix specifies up to approximately 6 hours of operation, although actual runtime can vary according to ambient temperature, display settings, wireless functions, recording, LRF usage and battery condition.
Two rechargeable 18650 batteries and an 18650 battery charger are included with the H50R.
BUILD QUALITY & WEATHER PROTECTION
The QUEST H50R uses a traditional binocular-style body with a refined full-rubber coating, providing a secure grip and additional protection during regular field use.
At approximately 700g, it remains relatively lightweight for a high-performance thermal binocular designed for prolonged handheld observation.
The H50R carries an IP67 rating for protection against water and dust, making it suitable for use in demanding outdoor conditions.
