The NocPix RICO2 H50R Thermal Imaging Scope with LRF is the versatile 640×512 model in the RICO2 thermal riflescope range, combining a 12μm thermal sensor with a fast 50mm F1.0 objective lens, integrated laser rangefinder and ballistic calculation. It delivers premium thermal image quality while retaining a wider field of view and lower base magnification than the larger 75mm H75R.

With ≤15mK thermal sensitivity, 3–24× magnification, a smooth 60Hz refresh rate and a manufacturer-stated detection range of approximately 2,600 metres, the H50R is particularly well suited to mixed-distance use. A dedicated dual-throw Picatinny scope mount is included, so no conventional scope rings are required for rifles fitted with a compatible Picatinny rail. Rifles with an 11mm dovetail rail require a suitable dovetail-to-Picatinny adaptor.

IS THE RICO2 H50R RIGHT FOR ME?

The H50R is arguably the most versatile model in the RICO2 range. Its 640×512 sensor and 50mm lens give it excellent image quality and strong longer-distance capability while still providing a wider field of view than the 75mm H75R.

It starts at 3× magnification and shows approximately 15.4 × 11.5m at 100m, making it easier to use across mixed terrain than the more specialised H75R.

If price is the main consideration, look at the L42R. If your priority is longer-distance performance with a 640 sensor, consider the H75R. If you want the highest-resolution RICO2, the S75R is the flagship choice.

L42R: The most accessible RICO2, with a 384×288 sensor and 42mm lens.

H50R vs L42R – WHAT DO I GAIN?

The H50R is a significant upgrade over the L42R. Sensor resolution increases from 384×288 to 640×512, while thermal sensitivity improves from ≤18mK to ≤15mK.

The objective lens increases from 42mm to 50mm, yet the H50R actually starts at a lower 3× magnification rather than 4×. This gives the H50R a much wider 15.4 × 11.5m field of view compared with approximately 11 × 8.2m from the L42R.

Manufacturer-stated detection range also increases from approximately 2,200m to 2,600m.

Choose L42R if price matters most. Choose H50R if better image detail, greater thermal sensitivity and wider viewing justify the step up.

H50R vs H75R – 50mm OR 75mm?

The H50R and H75R use the same 640×512, 12μm sensor with ≤15mK NETD, so the biggest difference is the objective lens and resulting optical characteristics.

The H50R uses a 50mm F1.0 lens with 3–24× magnification and approximately 15.4 × 11.5m field of view at 100m.

The H75R increases the objective to 75mm and magnification to 4–32×, but field of view narrows to approximately 10.2 × 8.2m at 100m.

Choose H50R if you want the more versatile 640 model for mixed distances. Choose H75R if your priority is longer-distance observation across open ground.

H50R vs S75R – DO I NEED 1280 RESOLUTION?

The S75R represents the major performance step above the H50R. Sensor resolution increases from 640×512 to 1280×1024, while objective size increases from 50mm to 75mm.

A 1280×1024 detector contains four times as many pixels as a 640×512 detector, giving the S75R substantially more thermal image information.

The larger sensor also allows the S75R to provide a very wide 20.5 × 16.4m field of view at 100m despite its 75mm objective.

Choose H50R if premium 640×512 performance gives you everything you need. Choose S75R if maximum image resolution and flagship RICO2 performance justify the higher investment.

640×512 SENSOR & ≤15mK NETD

The H50R combines a 640×512, 12μm thermal detector with ≤15mK thermal sensitivity.

The 640 sensor provides substantially more image information than the 384×288 detector used by the L42R, giving finer thermal detail and helping retain more useful information when digital magnification is applied.

NETD measures the detector's ability to distinguish small differences in temperature. A lower figure generally means greater thermal sensitivity, with the H50R rated at ≤15mK.

50mm F1.0 LENS & FIELD OF VIEW

The H50R's 50mm F1.0 objective lens gives it a useful balance between longer-distance capability and field of view.

At 3× base magnification it provides approximately 15.4 × 11.5 metres at 100 metres. This is considerably wider than the H75R, making the H50R easier to use where distances and terrain vary.

This combination of 640×512 resolution, 50mm lens and relatively low base magnification is the main reason the H50R is the most versatile RICO2 for many users.

STEPPLESS ZOOM LEVER – WHAT DOES IT DO?

The RICO2 platform uses a stepless zoom lever, allowing magnification to be adjusted progressively rather than relying only on fixed zoom steps.

This makes it easier to quickly move between wider observation and more detailed higher-magnification viewing while selecting the amount of zoom appropriate to the situation.

LASER RANGEFINDER & BALLISTIC CALCULATION

The RICO2 H50R includes an integrated laser rangefinder with a manufacturer-stated ranging capability of up to 1,200 metres under suitable conditions.

The RICO2 platform also incorporates ballistic calculation functionality, allowing ranging and compatible ballistic information to be handled within the same optic.

DETECTION RANGE vs IDENTIFICATION RANGE

The RICO2 H50R has a manufacturer-stated detection range of approximately 2,600 metres under specified test conditions.

Detection range is not the same as identification range. A thermal optic may detect that a heat source is present at considerable distance before there is enough image detail to determine exactly what that heat source is.

Actual useful detail depends on target size, temperature contrast, weather, atmospheric conditions and magnification.

RICO2 vs ACE vs BOLT – WHICH NOCPIX RANGE?

BOLT is the more accessible dedicated thermal scope family and offers a traditional scope-style format across several sensor resolutions.

MOUNT & RAIL INFORMATION

A dedicated dual-throw Picatinny scope mount is included with the NocPix RICO2 H50R. The H50R does not use a conventional 30mm scope tube or separate scope rings.

If your rifle has a Picatinny rail: the supplied RICO2 mount is designed to attach to a compatible Picatinny rail, so no additional scope rings are required.

If your rifle has an 11mm dovetail rail: the supplied Picatinny mount will not attach directly. You will need a suitable 11mm dovetail-to-Picatinny adaptor fitted to the rifle first, after which the supplied RICO2 mount can be attached.

Do not select a 30mm Hawke match mount for this scope. The RICO2 H50R uses its own dedicated supplied mounting system.

BATTERY & RUNTIME

The NocPix RICO2 H50R uses a rechargeable battery system designed to allow batteries to be changed in the field, making it practical for longer shooting sessions without having to stop and recharge the scope itself.

For extended use, a charged spare battery can be carried and swapped when required. Actual operating time will vary depending on temperature and the use of power-intensive features such as video recording, Wi-Fi, the laser rangefinder and ballistic calculation.
