The Hawke Endurance ED Marine 7x Binoculars are purpose-built for boating, sailing and coastal observation, combining Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass with a steady 7x magnification and rugged waterproof construction. Designed specifically for use on and around the water, they provide a bright, clear view while the relatively low magnification helps reduce the effect of movement when viewing from a boat.

ED glass helps control chromatic aberration and colour fringing, producing cleaner edges and more natural colour around high-contrast subjects. Fully multi-coated optics maximise light transmission, while the waterproof, nitrogen-purged construction is designed to provide dependable performance in the wet and rapidly changing conditions commonly encountered in marine environments.

Choose between the compact 7x32 and full-size 7x50. The 7x32 prioritises portability and is particularly well suited to smaller boats, kayaking and general coastal observation. The 7x50 provides considerably greater light-gathering capability and a large 7.1mm exit pupil, making it the more specialised choice for demanding marine use, navigation and observation around dawn, dusk and poor weather.

7x32 or 7x50 – Which Should I Choose?
7x32 7x50
Magnification 7x 7x
Objective 32mm 50mm
Exit Pupil Approx. 4.6mm Approx. 7.1mm
Portability Smaller and lighter Larger and heavier
Low-Light Capability Good Excellent
Best For Small boats, kayaking and coastal use Boating, sailing and demanding marine observation

Choose the 7x32 if portability matters. It retains the stable 7x viewing experience and ED optical system while reducing the overall bulk of the binoculars, making it particularly convenient on smaller boats or when equipment space is limited.

Choose the 7x50 when optical performance in difficult light takes priority over minimum size and weight. The much larger 50mm objectives and approximately 7.1mm exit pupil make it particularly well suited to early mornings, evenings and changing marine conditions.

Why 7x Magnification for Marine Use?

7x magnification is traditionally popular for marine binoculars because it provides useful magnification without excessively amplifying movement.

When viewing from a boat, both the observer and the subject can be moving. Higher magnification makes that movement more noticeable and can make it harder to maintain a stable view. The relatively moderate 7x magnification therefore provides a useful balance between image detail, field of view and stability.

This is particularly useful when locating buoys, identifying vessels, following wildlife or scanning the coastline from moving water.

Why Choose ED Glass?

Extra-Low Dispersion glass is designed to reduce chromatic aberration, which can appear as coloured fringing around high-contrast subjects.

Marine environments frequently contain extremely high-contrast scenes, such as dark boats, birds or coastline against bright sky and reflective water. ED glass helps maintain cleaner edges, more natural colour reproduction and improved fine detail in these demanding conditions.

Why Is 7x50 a Classic Marine Size?

The 7x50 configuration combines relatively moderate magnification with large 50mm objective lenses. Dividing 50mm by 7 gives an exit pupil of approximately 7.1mm.

This large exit pupil makes the binocular particularly well suited to viewing in reduced light and also makes eye positioning relatively forgiving. Combined with the steadier characteristics of 7x magnification, this is why the 7x50 format has traditionally been so closely associated with serious marine binoculars.

Marine vs Standard Endurance ED

The standard Hawke Endurance ED range is designed as a versatile outdoor binocular family, with numerous 8x, 10x and 12x configurations for birdwatching, wildlife observation, walking and general outdoor use.

Endurance ED Marine is much more specialised. Its 7x magnification and marine-focused construction are intended specifically for use on and around water, where image stability, dependable waterproofing and secure handling are particularly important.

Choose standard Endurance ED for general terrestrial wildlife and birdwatching. Choose Endurance ED Marine when boating, sailing and coastal observation are the primary use.

Best Uses

  • Coastal observation
  • Marine wildlife watching
  • Locating buoys and landmarks
  • Observing other vessels
  • Kayaking and smaller craft – particularly the 7x32
