Hawke Laser Range Finders – Buying Guide
The Hawke Laser Range Finder range covers everything from compact handheld distance measuring units to premium laser range finding binoculars. Whether you're shooting, hunting or simply need fast and accurate distance measurement in the field, Hawke offers several different options depending on the range, display type and optical format you need.
The main handheld ranges are Vantage and Endurance, with the Vantage models providing straightforward LCD ranging and the Endurance models stepping up to an illuminated OLED display. The Hawke LRF800 offers a separate 6x25 format, while the Frontier LRF combines binocular viewing with integrated laser range finding.

VANTAGE VS ENDURANCE
The two main Hawke handheld range finder families are Vantage and Endurance.
Vantage models use a standard LCD display and are available with maximum ranges of 400m, 600m and 900m.
Endurance models use an illuminated OLED display, making ranging information easier to read against a wider variety of backgrounds and lighting conditions. They are available in 700m, 1000m and 1500m versions.
If you want straightforward ranging at a lower price, Vantage is the natural starting point. If display visibility and greater ranging distance matter more, Endurance is the step up.
OLED VS LCD DISPLAY
Hawke Vantage and LRF800 models use LCD displays, while the Endurance range features an illuminated OLED display.
An OLED display provides bright illuminated ranging information, which can be easier to read against dark targets, woodland backgrounds and changing light conditions.
For occasional or straightforward ranging, an LCD display may be all you need. If you regularly use a range finder in varied light, the Endurance OLED models offer a useful upgrade.
6x21 VS 6x25 – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
The first number refers to magnification and the second to the diameter of the objective lens.
6x21 means six-times magnification with a 21mm objective lens. This compact format is used across the Vantage and Endurance ranges.
6x25 means six-times magnification with a larger 25mm objective lens. The Hawke LRF800 uses this configuration.
Both provide the same 6x magnification, but the larger 25mm objective gives the LRF800 a slightly different optical format.
RANGING MODES EXPLAINED
Standard: Measures direct line-of-sight distance to the target.
Horizontal Distance: Calculates horizontal distance, useful when ranging across sloping ground.
Angle: Displays the angle between the range finder and target.
Rain: Designed to help when rain could otherwise interfere with measurements.
Hunt: Helps when ranging through foreground vegetation such as grass, branches or brush.
WHERE DOES THE HAWKE LRF800 FIT?
The Hawke LRF800 sits outside the Vantage and Endurance families and uses a 6x25 optical system rather than 6x21.
With an 800m maximum ranging distance and LCD display, it provides an alternative for customers who want a straightforward handheld range finder with a slightly larger objective lens.
RANGE FINDER OR LRF BINOCULARS?
A handheld laser range finder is compact, lightweight and designed primarily for fast distance measurement.
Hawke Frontier LRF binoculars combine normal binocular viewing and laser range finding in a single unit. This makes them useful for users who spend longer periods observing ground or game and want to avoid carrying separate binoculars and a range finder.
The trade-off is size and price. A compact Vantage or Endurance range finder is easier to carry, while the Frontier LRF binoculars provide a more complete observation and ranging system.
WHICH HAWKE LASER RANGE FINDER SHOULD I CHOOSE?
For shorter-range use: Vantage 400.
For general shooting and hunting: Vantage 600 or Endurance 700.
For longer-distance ranging: Vantage 900 or Endurance 1000.
For the greatest handheld ranging capability: Endurance 1500.
For a 6x25 alternative: Hawke LRF800.
For binocular viewing and ranging in one unit: Hawke Frontier LRF Binoculars.
