The Hawke Endurance ED Binocular range combines Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass with phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms to deliver excellent clarity, natural colour reproduction and reduced colour fringing. Positioned above Hawke's general-purpose binocular ranges, Endurance ED is an excellent choice for birdwatching, wildlife observation, walking, stalking and regular outdoor use.

Fully multi-coated optics help produce a bright, sharp image, while the lightweight rubber-armoured chassis provides a secure and comfortable grip in the field. Waterproof and nitrogen-purged construction helps protect the internal optical system against moisture and fogging, making the Endurance ED range suitable for dependable year-round use.

With eight configurations from the highly portable 8x25 and 10x25 through to the powerful 10x50 and 12x50, there is an Endurance ED for almost every type of observation. Choose a smaller objective for portability, a 32mm model for an excellent balance of size and performance, a 42mm for versatile all-round use, or a 50mm model when long-range and lower-light observation are priorities.

Which Size Should I Choose?
Model Character Best For
8x25 Small, lightweight and easy to carry Travel, walking and everyday portability
10x25 Compact with additional reach Travel and distant viewing where pack size matters
8x32 Portable all-rounder with a wide, steady view Birdwatching, wildlife, walking and travel
10x32 Compact with greater magnification Open-country wildlife and more distant subjects
8x42 Versatile full-size all-rounder Birdwatching, wildlife, stalking and general outdoor use
10x42 Greater reach in a versatile 42mm format Open country, stalking and distant observation
10x50 Greater light gathering with 10x magnification Longer-range glassing and lower-light observation
12x50 Highest magnification in this Endurance ED range Long-range observation where maximum detail is the priority

For a versatile binocular that will be used for a little bit of everything, the 8x42 is an excellent starting point. It combines a useful 42mm objective with manageable 8x magnification and works particularly well for wildlife and birdwatching.

If you want something noticeably smaller to carry, look at the 8x32. If observing distant subjects is more important, move to a 10x model. The 10x50 and 12x50 are better suited to users prioritising longer-range and lower-light performance over minimum size and weight.

8x vs 10x vs 12x Magnification

8x magnification is the easiest all-round choice. It generally provides a wider field of view and makes hand movement less noticeable, which is particularly useful for finding birds, tracking moving wildlife and extended handheld observation.

10x magnification makes distant subjects appear larger and can reveal more detail at range. This makes it particularly useful across open countryside, although the increased magnification also makes hand movement more noticeable and generally reduces the field of view.

12x magnification is aimed more specifically at long-range observation. It provides the greatest reach in this range, but requires a steadier hold than either 8x or 10x. For prolonged observation, supporting the binoculars can improve viewing comfort and image stability.

25mm vs 32mm vs 42mm vs 50mm

The second number in the binocular specification is the diameter of the objective lenses. Larger objectives can gather more light, but they also increase the overall size and weight of the binoculars.

25mm models prioritise portability and are ideal when you want binoculars that are easy to carry throughout the day.

32mm models provide an excellent middle ground, remaining relatively compact while offering stronger all-round performance than pocket-sized binoculars.

42mm is the classic all-round size for serious birdwatching and wildlife observation, balancing light gathering, handling and portability.

50mm objectives provide increased light-gathering capability and suit more demanding observation, particularly at longer ranges and in poorer light, although the binoculars are correspondingly larger and heavier.

Why Choose ED Glass?

Extra-Low Dispersion glass is designed to reduce chromatic aberration, which can appear as coloured fringing around high-contrast subjects. By controlling the dispersion of different wavelengths of light, ED glass helps produce a cleaner image with more accurate colour and improved fine detail.

This is particularly useful when viewing branches against bright skies, detailed bird plumage, dark wildlife against bright backgrounds and distant subjects where small differences in image quality become easier to see.

Hawke Binocular Comparison
Range Optical Level Key Difference Best For
Vantage Entry level Accessible fully multi-coated binocular range General use and value
Nature-Trek Mid-range Phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms Walking, wildlife and birdwatching
Endurance ED ED performance ED glass with phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms Improved colour control without moving into Frontier pricing
Frontier HD X Premium H7 optical system and premium construction Premium optical performance and build quality
Frontier ED X Premium ED ED glass with dielectric prism coatings and magnesium chassis Serious birdwatching and wildlife observation
Frontier APO Flagship Apochromatic optical system with ED glass Hawke's highest conventional binocular optical performance

Endurance ED is an important step in the Hawke range because it introduces ED glass without requiring the move into the premium Frontier ED X or Frontier APO ranges. It is particularly well suited to customers who will appreciate better colour control and image quality but still want strong value for money.

Endurance ED vs Nature-Trek

Nature-Trek is a strong choice for general wildlife observation, walking and birdwatching, using phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms in a lightweight waterproof design.

Endurance ED adds Extra-Low Dispersion glass, making it the more appropriate choice for users who place greater importance on colour fidelity, control of chromatic aberration and fine image detail.

Endurance ED vs Frontier ED X

Both Endurance ED and Frontier ED X use Extra-Low Dispersion glass and phase-corrected BAK-4 roof prisms, so both are aimed at users looking for improved colour control over conventional binocular optics.

Frontier ED X moves further into Hawke's premium range with dielectric prism coatings, a magnesium alloy chassis and higher-grade construction. Endurance ED therefore offers a particularly attractive middle ground: genuine ED optics at a lower price point, while Frontier ED X is the step up for customers wanting more premium optical and mechanical specification.

Black or Green?

Black and Green versions use the same optical system and are selected purely according to your preferred finish. Colour availability can vary between the different magnification and objective-lens configurations.
