      VISTA H35 vs H50 – 35mm OR 50mm?

      The H35 and H50 both use a 640×512, 12μm thermal detector with ≤15mK sensitivity. The main difference is the objective lens.

      H35 – 35mm F0.9: Provides 3× base magnification and a wide 22 × 18m field of view at 100m. This makes it particularly useful for scanning and locating heat sources across larger areas.

      The H35 and H35R share the same 640×512 sensor, 35mm F0.9 lens, 3× base magnification and 22 × 18m field of view. The H35R adds an integrated laser rangefinder capable of measuring distances up to approximately 1,200m.

      The H50 and H50R follow the same principle. Both use a 640×512 sensor and 50mm F0.9 lens, but the H50R adds the integrated 1,200m laser rangefinder.

      If you do not require accurate distance measurement, the non-R versions provide the same core thermal imaging configuration. If range information is important, choose the corresponding R model.

      VISTA S50R vs H50R – IS 1280×1024 WORTH IT?

      The biggest difference between the S50R and H50R is the thermal detector.

      The H50R uses a 640×512 detector, containing 327,680 thermal pixels. The S50R uses a 1280×1024 detector, containing 1,310,720 thermal pixels.

      That gives the S50R four times as many thermal pixels. This provides substantially more native image information and helps retain finer detail, particularly when subjects are smaller or digital magnification is applied.

      The S50R also starts at just 2× base magnification and provides a very wide 31 × 25m field of view at 100m. The H50R starts at 4× and provides a narrower 15 × 12m view.

      Choose the H50R if you want premium 640×512 long-range performance and integrated rangefinding. Choose the S50R if maximum thermal detail and a much wider scanning view are the priorities.

      640×512 vs 1280×1024 THERMAL RESOLUTION

      Thermal sensor resolution tells you how many individual thermal measurement points are used to create the image.

      640×512: Used by the H35, H35R, H50 and H50R. This provides 327,680 thermal pixels and delivers a high level of thermal detail for premium handheld observation.

      1280×1024: Used by the S50R. This provides 1,310,720 thermal pixels, which is four times the pixel count of a 640×512 detector.

      Higher native resolution is particularly valuable when distinguishing smaller details, viewing more distant subjects or applying digital magnification while retaining useful image information.

      WHAT DOES ≤15mK NETD MEAN?

      NETD measures how small a temperature difference the thermal detector can distinguish. A lower NETD figure generally indicates greater thermal sensitivity.

      The VISTA range's highly sensitive thermal detectors are designed to reveal subtle temperature differences in demanding, low-contrast conditions such as damp weather, mist or environments where the background temperature is relatively close to that of the subject.

      WHAT DOES THERMAL DETECTION RANGE ACTUALLY MEAN?

      Manufacturer-stated detection range indicates the distance at which a thermal device can detect that a sufficiently large heat source is present under defined test conditions.
