The H50R is a substantial upgrade from the L35R. Sensor resolution increases from 384×288 to 640×512, while the objective lens increases from 35mm to 50mm.

Thermal sensitivity improves from ≤20mK to ≤18mK, refresh rate increases from 50Hz to 60Hz and magnification expands from 3.5–14× to 3–24×.

Manufacturer-stated detection range also rises considerably from approximately 1,800m to 2,600m.

Choose the L35R if value is the bigger priority. Choose the H50R if image detail, longer-distance performance and higher magnification matter more.

The P25R and H50R sit at opposite ends of the BOLT family.

The P25R uses a 256×192 sensor and 25mm objective, while the H50R uses a much higher-resolution 640×512 sensor and 50mm objective.

Detection range rises from approximately 1,300m on the P25R to 2,600m on the H50R, while magnification expands from 3.5–14× to 3–24×.

The P25R is primarily about accessible pricing. The H50R is designed for customers who want premium BOLT image quality and are prepared to pay for it.

The H50R's 640×512 thermal detector contains significantly more pixels than the sensors used by the P25R and L35R.

That additional resolution gives the scope more thermal information to work with, improving visible detail and helping retain more useful image information when digital magnification is applied.

This is one of the main reasons the H50R is the premium BOLT model rather than simply a longer-lens version of the lower models.

NETD measures how effectively a thermal detector can distinguish very small temperature differences. In general, a lower NETD figure indicates greater thermal sensitivity.

The H50R is rated at ≤18mK, compared with ≤20mK on the P25R and L35R. This helps preserve contrast and environmental detail when thermal conditions are less favourable.

The H50R uses the largest objective lens in the current BOLT range at 50mm F1.0.

Combined with 3× base magnification, it provides a field of view of approximately 15.4 × 12.3 metres at 100 metres.

The larger lens contributes to the H50R's longer-distance positioning, while the 640×512 sensor helps maintain a practical field of view and useful detail.

The BOLT H50R includes an integrated laser rangefinder with a manufacturer-stated maximum ranging distance of up to 1,200 metres under suitable conditions.

The scope also includes ballistic calculation functionality, providing an integrated solution for customers who want ranging and compatible ballistic information within the same optic.

The H50R operates at 60Hz, compared with 50Hz on the P25R and L35R.

A higher refresh rate can provide smoother image movement when either the user or subject is moving, which can make tracking and scanning feel more fluid.

It should still be considered alongside sensor resolution, lens size and NETD rather than treated as the only measure of thermal performance.

The BOLT platform combines an internal rechargeable battery with a replaceable 18650 battery.

This gives the convenience of an internal power source while also allowing a spare 18650 battery to be carried and changed in the field when required.

Actual operating time will vary depending on temperature, recording, connectivity and other settings.
