850NM OR 940NM — WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE?
Choose 850nm if maximum night-time illumination and image performance are your priority. An 850nm illuminator generally provides stronger usable infrared illumination for digital night vision, making it the better all-round choice where maximum performance is required.
Choose 940nm if you want a more discreet infrared source. The 940nm wavelength produces less visible glow from the illuminator, although usable illumination and image performance will generally be lower than with 850nm.
For most customers wanting the strongest performance from their NocPix NITE at night, we would recommend the 850nm version. Choose 940nm where reduced visible glow is more important.
WHY DOES THE NITE NEED AN IR ILLUMINATOR?
The NocPix NITE is a digital day and night vision system rather than a thermal imager. It uses available light to create its image, so additional infrared illumination can significantly improve visibility when operating in complete darkness.
The IR illuminator projects infrared light that is detected by the NITE's digital sensor, allowing the optic to produce a clearer night-time image without requiring conventional visible illumination.
