30mm Tube vs Rail Mount (RM) Explained

The NocPix ACE H50R is available in two mounting configurations. The standard ACE H50R uses a conventional 30mm riflescope tube, allowing it to be fitted using suitable 30mm scope rings.

This ACE H50R RM version is the Rail Mount model. It uses NocPix's dedicated rail-mounting arrangement rather than conventional 30mm mounting rings.

The RM designation refers to the mounting configuration, not a different thermal sensor or objective lens. Both H50R versions retain the 640 × 512 thermal detector, 50mm F0.9 objective, integrated laser rangefinder and ballistic calculation.

  • Standard ACE H50R: conventional 30mm tube mounting
  • ACE H50R RM: dedicated rail-mounting configuration
  • Conventional 30mm scope rings required for RM: no
  • Thermal resolution: 640 × 512 on both versions
  • Objective lens: 50mm F0.9 on both versions
  • Integrated laser rangefinder: included on both H50R versions

The RM version should not be confused with a standard 30mm scope fitted with separate mounting rings.

Before ordering, ensure the rail-mounting arrangement is compatible with your rifle and intended installation. If you specifically require conventional 30mm scope rings, choose the standard ACE H50R instead.

640 × 512 Thermal Sensor & ≤15mK Sensitivity

The ACE H50R RM features a 640 × 512 VOx thermal detector with a 12μm pixel pitch, providing 327,680 native thermal pixels.

Its ≤15mK NETD sensitivity helps distinguish very small temperature differences under specified test conditions. This is particularly useful when thermal contrast between a subject and its surroundings is limited.

Compared with the 384 × 288 ACE L35, the H50R RM captures almost three times as many native thermal pixels.

The 60Hz refresh rate provides smooth image updates when observing moving subjects or changing the viewing direction.

Actual thermal performance depends on atmospheric conditions, humidity, target size, temperature contrast and observation distance.

50mm F0.9 Germanium Objective Lens

The H50R RM incorporates a 50mm germanium objective lens with a fast F0.9 aperture.

The large objective collects thermal radiation and focuses it onto the high-resolution 640 × 512 detector.

The F0.9 aperture provides strong thermal transmission characteristics and supports detailed observation in challenging conditions.

Compared with the 35mm ACE L35, the H50R RM uses a longer focal length suited to more distant observation.

Manual objective focusing allows the image to be adjusted for different viewing distances.

2,600m Thermal Detection Range

NocPix specifies a maximum thermal detection distance of 2,600 metres for the ACE H50R RM.

This figure is based on a standard reference target under specified manufacturer test conditions.

Detection means establishing the presence of a thermal target. It does not mean positively identifying a particular subject at the maximum stated distance.

Actual detection and identification distances depend on subject size, atmospheric humidity, weather and temperature contrast.

The thermal detection distance is separate from the integrated laser rangefinder's maximum measuring distance of 1,200 metres.

3–24× Magnification & Field of View

The ACE H50R RM offers a magnification range of 3–24×.

Its angular field of view is 8.8° × 7.0°, equivalent to approximately 15.4 × 12.3 metres at 100 metres.

The 3× base magnification provides a useful balance between surrounding scene awareness and image scale.

Additional digital magnification allows smaller sections of the thermal image to be examined more closely.

Increasing digital magnification narrows the visible area and does not increase the detector's native resolution.

Integrated 1,200m Laser Rangefinder

The ACE H50R RM incorporates an integrated Class 1 laser rangefinder capable of measuring distances up to 1,200 metres under suitable conditions.

The manufacturer's stated ranging accuracy is approximately ±1 metre.

Distance information can be displayed within the thermal image, removing the need to switch to a separate handheld rangefinder.

The integrated LRF also supplies distance information to the scope's ballistic calculation system.

Actual ranging performance depends on target reflectivity, viewing angle, atmospheric conditions and distance.

Built-In Ballistic Calculation

The ACE H50R RM includes ballistic calculation functionality designed to work alongside its integrated laser rangefinder.

When appropriate ballistic information has been configured, the system can use measured distance to calculate an estimated aiming correction.

Correct zeroing, accurate ballistic data and appropriate verification are essential for meaningful results.

Ballistic calculation provides additional information rather than replacing proper equipment setup and responsible use.

Reality+ Image Processing

NocPix Reality+ image processing is designed to enhance thermal image contrast and perceived detail.

The technology works alongside the native 640 × 512 detector to refine the presentation of thermal subjects and surrounding terrain.

Reality+ can help make thermal outlines and differences in temperature easier to distinguish under challenging observation conditions.

Image processing does not change the physical resolution of the detector.

Vision+ Viewing System & AMOLED Display

The H50R RM features NocPix's Vision+ viewing system with a high-resolution 2560 × 2560 AMOLED display.

The viewing system presents the processed thermal image, reticle, laser rangefinder information and device menus.

The high-resolution AMOLED display is designed to provide detailed image presentation and an immersive viewing experience.

The scope features 50mm eye relief, an 8mm exit pupil and dioptre adjustment from -5D to +5D.

1–3× Ocular Zoom System

The ACE H50R RM incorporates NocPix's adjustable ocular zoom system.

The 1–3× ocular magnification adjustment allows the viewing experience to be changed through the eyepiece.

This is separate from the scope's 3–24× digital magnification range.

The ocular system is designed to help maintain a clear and comfortable view of the AMOLED display without relying solely on digital enlargement of the thermal image.

Dual-Battery Power System & Runtime

The ACE H50R RM uses a dual-battery system consisting of a built-in 4,000mAh rechargeable battery and an additional removable rechargeable 18650 battery.

This arrangement combines an internal power supply with the convenience of a replaceable battery.

NocPix specifies a maximum operating time of up to 7 hours under reference test conditions at approximately 22°C.

Actual runtime depends on ambient temperature, display settings, recording, Wi-Fi and laser rangefinder usage.

The standard ACE accessory package includes two rechargeable 18650 batteries and a compatible battery charger.

USB Type-C connectivity also supports compatible charging and external power.

Only use rechargeable batteries meeting the manufacturer's specifications.

64GB Storage, Recording & Wi-Fi

The ACE H50R RM includes 64GB of internal storage for photographs and video recordings.

Recording features include photo capture, video recording, audio recording and recoil-activated video recording.

Picture-in-picture functionality allows an enlarged section of the thermal image to be displayed while retaining a wider view of the surrounding scene.

Built-in Wi-Fi supports communication with compatible mobile devices and NocPix app functions.

USB Type-C connectivity provides supported charging and data-transfer functionality.

Thermal Colour Palettes & Image Adjustment

The ACE H50R RM offers selectable thermal colour palettes, allowing the appearance of the thermal image to be adjusted according to viewing conditions and personal preference.

Available image presentation options include white-hot, black-hot and alternative colour modes.

Different palettes can help highlight temperature differences, subject outlines and surrounding terrain.

Additional image adjustment settings and Reality+ processing provide further control over the displayed thermal image.

IP67 Protection & Rugged Construction

The ACE H50R RM features a durable housing designed for demanding outdoor use.

Its IP67 rating provides protection against dust ingress and temporary water immersion under the conditions specified by the rating.

NocPix specifies recoil resistance up to 6,000 joules and an operating temperature range of -20°C to +50°C.

The dedicated RM mounting arrangement offers an alternative to conventional tube-mounted riflescope installation.

Correct mounting, suitable battery care and routine maintenance remain important for reliable operation.
