      NocPix thermal binoculars are designed for users who prefer a natural two-eye viewing experience for prolonged thermal observation. The current NocPix QUEST range includes four models: the L35R, H35R, H50R and flagship S50R, covering sensor resolutions from 384×288 through to 1280×1024.

      The main differences between the models are thermal sensor resolution, objective lens size, base magnification, field of view and detection range. Choosing the right QUEST binocular therefore comes down to whether you prioritise price, wide-area scanning, longer-distance observation or maximum image quality.

      QUEST L35R: The most accessible model in the range. It combines a 384×288 sensor with a 35mm F0.9 lens and 5× base magnification.

      QUEST H35R: The all-round 640×512 model. It retains the 35mm lens but offers much higher sensor resolution and a significantly wider field of view.

      QUEST H50R: Uses the same 640×512 sensor as the H35R but moves to a 50mm lens for stronger long-distance performance and approximately 2,600m detection.

      QUEST S50R: The flagship model. Its 1280×1024 sensor delivers maximum image detail and an exceptionally wide 30 × 24m field of view while retaining approximately 2,600m detection.

      WHICH NOCPIX THERMAL BINOCULARS SHOULD I CHOOSE?

      Choose the QUEST L35R if you want the most affordable route into NocPix thermal binoculars and are happy with 384×288 resolution.

      Choose the QUEST H35R if you want the best balance of image quality and field of view. Its 640×512 sensor and 35mm lens make it particularly effective for scanning mixed terrain and locating heat sources quickly.

      Choose the QUEST H50R if you want the same 640×512 sensor but regularly work across more open ground and longer distances. Its 50mm lens increases detection range and gives distant subjects greater image scale.

      Choose the QUEST S50R if maximum image quality is the priority. Its 1280×1024 sensor contains four times as many thermal pixels as the 640×512 H35R and H50R and combines that resolution with the widest field of view in the range.

      QUEST L35R vs H35R – WHICH 35mm MODEL?

      The L35R and H35R both use a 35mm F0.9 objective lens and both have approximately 1,800m manufacturer-stated detection range. The main difference is sensor resolution and field of view.

      The L35R uses a 384×288 sensor with 5× base magnification and approximately 13 × 10m field of view at 100m.

      The H35R moves to a much higher-resolution 640×512 sensor, lowers base magnification to 3× and increases field of view to approximately 22 × 18m at 100m.

      Choose L35R if price is the priority. Choose H35R if you want significantly more image detail and a much wider view for scanning.

      QUEST H35R vs H50R – WIDE VIEW OR LONGER RANGE?

      The H35R and H50R both use the same 640×512, 12μm thermal sensor, so the choice between them is primarily about lens focal length, field of view and detection range.

      The H35R uses a 35mm F0.9 lens, starts at 3× magnification and provides approximately 22 × 18m field of view at 100m. Its manufacturer-stated detection range is approximately 1,800m.

      The H50R uses a 50mm F1.1 lens, starts at 4× and provides a narrower 15 × 12m field of view, but increases manufacturer-stated detection range to approximately 2,600m.

      Choose H35R if wide-area scanning and versatility matter most. Choose H50R if longer-distance observation across more open ground is the priority.

      QUEST H50R vs S50R – 640 OR 1280?

      The H50R and S50R both use a 50mm F1.1 objective lens and both have approximately 2,600m manufacturer-stated detection range. The major difference is sensor resolution.

      The H50R uses a 640×512 detector containing 327,680 thermal pixels. The S50R uses a 1280×1024 detector containing 1,310,720 thermal pixels.

      That means the S50R has four times as many thermal pixels.

      The larger sensor also allows the S50R to start at only 2× magnification and provide an exceptional 30 × 24m field of view at 100m, compared with 4× and 15 × 12m on the H50R.

      Choose H50R for excellent 640×512 long-distance performance at a lower price. Choose S50R for maximum image detail and substantially wider viewing.

      384 vs 640 vs 1280 THERMAL RESOLUTION

      Thermal sensor resolution determines how many individual thermal pixels are available to construct the image.

      384×288: Used by the QUEST L35R. This is the most affordable sensor option in the range and is well suited to users prioritising value.

      640×512: Used by the H35R and H50R. This provides almost three times as many thermal pixels as 384×288 and gives a significant increase in visible image detail.

      1280×1024: Used by the S50R. This contains exactly four times as many thermal pixels as a 640×512 detector and represents the flagship level of image resolution within the QUEST range.

      Higher resolution becomes particularly useful when viewing fine detail or increasing digital magnification because the image starts with substantially more thermal information.

      35mm vs 50mm – WHICH LENS IS BETTER?

      Neither lens size is automatically better. They are designed for different viewing priorities.

      35mm models: The L35R and H35R provide a wider viewing style and are particularly useful across mixed terrain where quickly locating heat sources is important.

      50mm models: The H50R and S50R place greater emphasis on longer-distance observation and provide approximately 2,600m manufacturer-stated detection range.

      The S50R is unusual because its much larger 1280×1024 sensor allows it to combine a 50mm lens with an exceptionally wide field of view.

      WHY CHOOSE THERMAL BINOCULARS INSTEAD OF A MONOCULAR?

      The main advantage of thermal binoculars is comfortable two-eye viewing. For longer periods of observation, many users find a binocular-style viewing position more natural than repeatedly viewing a thermal display with one eye.

      The binocular body also provides a stable two-handed grip, which can help when scanning slowly or examining distant heat sources.

      A thermal monocular remains the better choice where minimum size and weight are the main priorities. Thermal binoculars make more sense where viewing comfort, stability and prolonged observation are more important.

      WHAT DOES ≤15mK NETD MEAN?

      NETD measures how effectively a thermal detector can distinguish very small differences in temperature. In general, a lower NETD figure indicates greater thermal sensitivity.

      The current QUEST range is specified at ≤15mK, helping the binoculars retain useful thermal detail when the temperature difference between a subject and its surroundings is relatively small.

      This can be particularly useful in rain, mist, humid conditions and other situations where thermal contrast is reduced.

      R+ IMAGE PROCESSING & ELECTRONIC IMAGE STABILISATION

      NocPix QUEST binoculars use R+ image processing to optimise thermal detail, contrast and overall image presentation.

      Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) helps reduce visible movement while the binoculars are being used handheld, producing a steadier image.

      Combined with the QUEST range's 60Hz refresh rate, these technologies help produce a smooth and stable viewing experience during prolonged scanning.

      INTEGRATED LASER RANGEFINDER

      The NocPix QUEST range incorporates a concealed laser rangefinder with a manufacturer-specified maximum ranging distance of up to 1,000 metres.

      Integrating the LRF into the binocular body allows the user to measure distance directly through the thermal device without carrying a separate handheld rangefinder.

      NocPix also supports ballistic calculation functionality within the QUEST platform.

      DETECTION RANGE vs IDENTIFICATION RANGE

      Detection range refers to the distance at which a thermal device may detect that a sufficiently large heat source is present.

      Detection range is not the same as identification range. A heat source can often be detected long before enough visible detail is available to determine exactly what that heat source is.

      The L35R and H35R have manufacturer-stated detection ranges of approximately 1,800m, while the H50R and S50R increase this to approximately 2,600m.

      Actual useful viewing distance will depend on subject size, weather, thermal contrast, atmospheric conditions and the amount of magnification being used.
