The NocPix QUEST L35R Thermal Imaging Binoculars with LRF are the most accessible model in the QUEST range, combining a 384×288, 12μm thermal sensor with a fast 35mm F0.9 germanium objective lens and 5× base magnification.
Despite sitting below the higher-resolution QUEST models, the L35R retains the same excellent ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and smooth 60Hz refresh rate, together with an integrated 1,000m laser rangefinder, dual-eye AMOLED viewing, Electronic Image Stabilisation and the same rugged IP67 binocular platform. With a manufacturer-stated detection range of up to 1,800 metres, it provides a strong entry point for users moving into dedicated thermal binoculars.

THERMAL SENSOR & IMAGE QUALITY
The QUEST L35R uses a 384×288 thermal sensor with a 12μm pixel pitch and ≤15mK NETD thermal sensitivity.
The lower sensor resolution compared with the H35R and H50R is the main reason the L35R sits at the entry point of the range, but its thermal sensitivity remains exceptionally strong. NETD determines how effectively the thermal system can distinguish small differences in temperature, and the L35R shares the same ≤15mK rating as the more expensive QUEST models.
This helps maintain usable thermal detail in lower-contrast conditions such as damp weather, mist and environments where the subject and background are relatively close in temperature.
A 60Hz refresh rate provides smooth movement while scanning and following moving heat sources, while R+ processing and Electronic Image Stabilisation help improve image clarity and stability.
35MM F0.9 LENS & 5× BASE MAGNIFICATION
The L35R uses the same fast 35mm F0.9 objective lens size as the H35R, but the lower-resolution sensor results in a very different viewing characteristic.
Base magnification starts at 5×, providing a relatively tight native image and making distant heat sources appear larger than through the wider-view H35R.
The 7.5° × 5.7° field of view covers approximately 13 × 10 metres at 100 metres. This is considerably narrower than the H35R, so the L35R is less suited to rapid wide-area scanning, but the stronger native magnification can be useful when observation is concentrated at moderate distances.
1,800M DETECTION RANGE
NocPix specifies a maximum detection range of up to approximately 1,800 metres for the QUEST L35R.
Detection range refers to the distance at which a suitably sized heat source may be detected under suitable conditions. It should not be confused with identification range, which will normally be considerably shorter.
The combination of the 35mm objective and 5× native magnification gives the L35R useful reach while keeping the price significantly below the higher-resolution QUEST models.
1,000M INTEGRATED LASER RANGEFINDER
The QUEST L35R includes the same concealed laser rangefinder concept used across the QUEST family, with a manufacturer-stated ranging capability of up to 1,000 metres.
This allows distance information to be obtained directly through the binocular without carrying a separate handheld rangefinder.
The LRF is integrated into the body of the device, helping retain the clean binocular-style shape of the QUEST platform.
L35R vs H35R vs H50R vs S50R
| Specification | L35R | H35R | H50R | S50R |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sensor | 384×288 | 640×512 | 640×512 | 1280×1024 |
| NETD | ≤15mK | ≤15mK | ≤15mK | ≤15mK |
| Lens | 35mm F0.9 | 35mm F0.9 | 50mm F1.1 | 50mm F1.1 |
| Magnification | 5–40× | 3–24× | 4–32× | 2–16× |
| FOV @ 100m | 13 × 10m | 22 × 18m | 15 × 12m | 30 × 24m |
| Best Suited To | Entry-level QUEST / stronger native magnification | All-round / mixed terrain | Longer-range / open ground | Maximum image quality & wide scanning |
L35R: the most accessible QUEST model. It keeps the ≤15mK sensitivity, 60Hz refresh rate, LRF and core QUEST platform while using a 384×288 sensor and higher 5× base magnification.
H35R: the biggest step up for general use. Its 640×512 sensor provides almost three times as many thermal pixels and its much wider field of view makes scanning considerably easier.
H50R: retains the 640×512 sensor but moves to a 50mm lens and 4× base magnification for more distance-focused use across open ground.
S50R: the flagship, using a 1280×1024 sensor and exceptionally wide field of view for maximum image information and wide-area observation.
L35R vs H35R – IS THE H35R WORTH THE EXTRA?
The L35R and H35R use the same 35mm F0.9 objective, the same 12μm pixel pitch, the same ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and the same 60Hz refresh rate. The major difference is sensor resolution.
The L35R uses a 384×288 sensor with 110,592 thermal pixels. The H35R uses a 640×512 sensor with 327,680 thermal pixels – almost three times as many.
This gives the H35R considerably more thermal image information and allows it to deliver a much wider 22 × 18m field of view at 100m while still starting at 3× magnification.
The L35R instead starts at 5× and provides a narrower 13 × 10m field of view. That can be useful when you naturally prefer greater native magnification, but it makes sweeping large areas slower.
Our view: if budget allows and you regularly scan mixed terrain, the H35R is the stronger all-round binocular. The L35R remains a very capable route into QUEST if you want the binocular platform, LRF and excellent thermal sensitivity without paying for the higher-resolution sensor.
WHY CHOOSE THE QUEST L35R?
The L35R makes most sense for someone who wants the comfort and features of the QUEST binocular platform but does not necessarily need a 640×512 or 1280×1024 thermal sensor.
It keeps many of the same headline features as the more expensive models, including ≤15mK sensitivity, 60Hz imaging, integrated 1,000m LRF, dual-eye viewing, image stabilisation, ballistic calculation, N-Link connectivity and the dual-battery system.
The compromise is resolution and field of view. If maximum thermal detail or rapid wide-area scanning is the priority, moving to the H35R is worthwhile. If value and native magnification matter more, the L35R is a strong entry point.
DISPLAY, RECORDING & 64GB STORAGE
The QUEST L35R uses a high-resolution 1920 × 1200 AMOLED viewing system designed around comfortable two-eye observation.
A 10mm exit pupil and 25mm eye relief help provide a relaxed viewing position during longer sessions.
The device includes 64GB of internal storage for recording observations and supports photo, video and onboard audio recording.
BATTERY & POWER SYSTEM
The QUEST L35R uses the same dual-battery concept found throughout the QUEST family, combining a built-in 4200mAh battery with a replaceable rechargeable 18650 battery.
The replaceable external battery can be changed while the internal battery maintains power, reducing interruption during prolonged observation sessions.
Two rechargeable 18650 batteries and a dedicated 18650 battery charger are included with the L35R.
Actual battery runtime will depend on ambient temperature and the use of features such as recording, wireless connectivity, LRF and display brightness.
BUILD QUALITY & WEATHER PROTECTION
The L35R uses the same traditional binocular-style design language as the rest of the QUEST family, with a full-rubber coating to improve grip and provide additional protection during field use.
At around 700g, it remains relatively lightweight for a thermal binocular and is designed for comfortable prolonged handheld observation.
The device carries an IP67 rating for protection against water and dust, making it suitable for demanding outdoor conditions.
