The MATE H38R is arguably the all-rounder of the MATE range. Its 640×512 sensor provides a significant increase in image detail over the 384×288 MATE LITE, while the 38mm lens retains a useful 20.5 × 15.4m field of view at 100 metres.

This makes it particularly well suited to mixed-distance use where both image quality and situational awareness matter. If you regularly use thermal across fields, woodland edges or varied terrain and do not specifically need the additional reach of a 50mm lens, the H38R offers an excellent balance.

Compared with the H50R, the H38R sacrifices some outright detection range in exchange for a wider field of view. Compared with the LITE, it provides the considerably higher-resolution 640×512 sensor as well as an integrated 1,200m laser rangefinder.

Choose the MATE H38R if you want the best balance of resolution, field of view and range. You get a 640×512 sensor, 38mm lens, up to 1,950m detection and an integrated 1,200m LRF. Its 20.5 × 15.4m field of view at 100m also makes it easier to scan a larger area than the H50R.

Choose the MATE H50R if longer-distance performance matters more than having the wider field of view. It retains the 640×512 sensor but moves to a 50mm F1.0 lens, increasing stated detection range to 2,600m. Its narrower 15 × 11.5m field of view at 100m makes it particularly suited to more open ground and longer-distance observation.

Choose the MATE ULTRA if you want the flagship model and maximum thermal image detail. Its 1280×1024 sensor is a substantial step up in resolution, paired with a 60mm F1.0 lens and up to 3,100m detection. Despite its long-range capability, the much larger sensor also gives the ULTRA a very wide 25.6 × 20.5m field of view at 100m.

In short: LITE for value, H38R for the best all-round balance, H50R for greater long-range reach, and ULTRA for maximum image quality and performance.

The MATE H38R features an integrated laser rangefinder with a stated measuring range of up to 1,200 metres. Having the LRF built directly into the attachment allows distance information to be obtained through the thermal system without relying on a separate handheld rangefinder.

Built-in ballistic calculation complements the ranging system, providing additional information when using the H38R at varying distances.

The 640×512, 12μm thermal detector combines with ≤15mK thermal sensitivity to distinguish small temperature differences and retain useful target and environmental detail in challenging thermal conditions.

A 60Hz refresh rate provides smooth image movement while scanning or following moving targets. NocPix Reality+ image processing is designed to optimise thermal detail and image clarity, while the 1920×1080 AMOLED display provides a high-resolution viewing image.

The MATE H38R is designed primarily as a front-mounted thermal attachment for use with a conventional daytime riflescope. This allows you to retain the familiar eye relief, reticle and shooting position of your existing optic while adding thermal imaging capability.

A suitable adapter is required to securely attach the MATE to the objective end of the day scope. Adapter size is determined by the external diameter of the riflescope's objective housing, rather than simply the stated objective lens size.

The MATE H38R includes 64GB of internal storage and supports photo, video and audio recording, allowing thermal footage to be captured directly through the device.
