The NocPix MATE LITE Thermal Imaging Clip-On Attachment is the most accessible model in the current MATE thermal clip-on range, designed for customers who want to add thermal imaging capability to a compatible daytime riflescope without moving up to the higher-resolution H38R, H50R or flagship MATE ULTRA.

It combines a 384×288, 12μm thermal sensor with excellent ≤15mK thermal sensitivity, a fast 38mm F1.0 germanium objective lens and a smooth 60Hz refresh rate. Despite being the entry point to the range, the MATE LITE retains the strong thermal sensitivity and fast lens technology found across the current MATE family.

Mounted in front of a compatible conventional riflescope, the MATE LITE allows you to retain your familiar daytime optic, reticle and shooting position while adding thermal capability when required. It is an excellent choice for customers who want the flexibility of the MATE clip-on system at a considerably lower price than the 640 and 1280-resolution models.

384×288 Thermal Sensor

The MATE LITE uses a 384×288 thermal imaging detector with a 12μm pixel pitch.

While it does not provide the native resolution of the 640×512 H38R and H50R, the 384-resolution detector allows NocPix to offer the current MATE clip-on platform at a much more accessible price.

For customers using sensible levels of day-scope magnification and working at typical pest-control distances, it provides a strong balance between thermal performance and cost.

MATE LITE: 384×288 and designed around value.

H38R/H50R: 640×512 for considerably greater native thermal detail.

≤15mK Thermal Sensitivity

One of the most impressive aspects of the MATE LITE is that its more accessible positioning does not mean a major compromise in thermal sensitivity.

NocPix specifies ≤15mK NETD, matching the quoted sensitivity of the higher-resolution current MATE models.

NETD describes how small a temperature difference the thermal detector can distinguish. Lower figures indicate greater thermal sensitivity.

This is particularly important in challenging thermal conditions such as mild, damp or humid weather, when the temperature difference between an animal and the surrounding vegetation or ground can be relatively small.

38mm F1.0 Objective Lens

The MATE LITE uses a 38mm F1.0 germanium objective lens.

The fast F1.0 aperture allows a high level of thermal energy to reach the detector, helping the unit make full use of its sensitive ≤15mK thermal sensor.

Interestingly, the LITE shares the same 38mm focal length as the H38R. The major difference between the two is therefore not simply the lens size, but the detector resolution behind it.

12.3 × 9.2m Field of View at 100m

The MATE LITE provides a 6.9° × 5.2° angular field of view, equivalent to approximately 12.3 × 9.2 metres at 100 metres.

Angular FOV 6.9° × 5.2°
Linear FOV @100m 12.3 × 9.2m
Objective 38mm F1.0

Although the LITE and H38R both use a 38mm objective, the larger physical detector area of the 640×512 H38R gives it a substantially wider 20.5 × 15.4m field of view.

Smooth 60Hz Thermal Imaging

The MATE LITE operates at a smooth 60Hz refresh rate.

This means the thermal image can update up to 60 times per second, helping movement remain fluid when scanning across ground or following moving animals.

This is particularly useful in a front-mounted system because the thermal display is then being viewed through the optical system of the daytime riflescope behind it.

What Is a Thermal Clip-On?

A thermal clip-on is designed to mount in front of a compatible conventional daytime riflescope.

Rather than removing your existing optic and replacing it with a dedicated thermal riflescope, the MATE produces the thermal image in front of the day scope.

This allows you to retain:

  • Your existing daytime riflescope
  • Your familiar reticle
  • Your normal shooting position
  • Your established eye relief
  • The ability to return to conventional daytime use

The MATE format is particularly useful if you already own a quality daytime riflescope that you do not want to replace with a dedicated thermal optic.

MATE LITE vs Dedicated Thermal Scope

The MATE LITE and a dedicated thermal riflescope both provide thermal imaging, but they approach the job differently.

Choose the MATE LITE if:

  • You want to keep your existing daytime scope
  • You prefer your existing reticle
  • You want thermal capability only when required
  • You want a removable thermal setup
  • You want an accessible entry into the NocPix MATE range

Choose a dedicated thermal scope if:

  • The rifle will primarily be used with thermal
  • You want a completely integrated thermal sighting system
  • You do not need to retain a conventional daytime optic
R+ Image Processing

NocPix's R+ image-processing technology is designed to optimise the thermal image for improved clarity and useful detail.

Image processing is particularly important on a thermal clip-on because the image generated by the thermal unit may subsequently be magnified by the daytime riflescope.

Correct focus, thermal conditions, target distance and day-scope magnification will all affect the final image seen by the user.

How Much Day-Scope Magnification Can I Use?

Increasing the magnification of the daytime riflescope enlarges the thermal image produced by the MATE.

As with any thermal clip-on, increasing magnification eventually makes the individual pixels of the thermal display more apparent and reduces perceived image detail.

The useful level of magnification depends on:

  • Target distance
  • Weather and thermal contrast
  • Quality of the daytime riflescope
  • Correct focus
  • Clip-on alignment

If higher day-scope magnification is an important part of your setup, the 640×512 H38R or H50R is worth considering because those models start with substantially more native thermal image information.

Does the MATE LITE Have an LRF?

No. The MATE LITE is the simpler non-LRF model within the current range.

If you want an integrated laser rangefinder and the additional rangefinding functionality of the R models, consider the MATE H38R, H50R or MATE ULTRA instead.

MATE LITE: no integrated LRF.

H38R / H50R / ULTRA: higher-specification options for customers wanting the rangefinding platform.

Does the MATE LITE Change My Zero?

The MATE LITE is designed to operate in front of your existing daytime riflescope rather than replacing it.

Correct mounting and alignment are essential with any front-mounted thermal attachment. The complete system should always be checked on an appropriate target when first installed and after the unit has been removed and refitted.

This allows you to confirm the complete rifle, day scope, adaptor and thermal attachment are correctly aligned before field use.

What Adaptor Do I Need?

The MATE LITE requires a compatible front adaptor to attach it securely to the objective end of the daytime riflescope.

The correct size is determined by the external diameter of the riflescope's objective housing rather than simply the nominal objective lens diameter.

For example, a riflescope described as having a 50mm objective will normally have an external objective bell considerably larger than 50mm.

If you are unsure which adaptor you require, contact Bamfords Online with the exact make and model of your daytime riflescope and we can help identify the correct mounting option.

MATE LITE vs H38R

The MATE LITE and H38R are particularly interesting to compare because both use a 38mm F1.0 objective lens, ≤15mK thermal sensitivity and a 60Hz refresh rate.

The major difference is sensor resolution.

Sensor LITE: 384×288
H38R: 640×512
Pixel Pitch Both 12μm
NETD Both ≤15mK
Refresh Rate Both 60Hz
Objective Both 38mm F1.0
FOV @100m LITE: 12.3 × 9.2m
H38R: 20.5 × 15.4m

A 640×512 detector contains approximately 327,000 thermal pixels compared with around 111,000 in a 384×288 detector. The H38R therefore starts with almost three times as much native thermal image information.

Choose MATE LITE: if value is the priority and you want the most affordable route into the current MATE platform.

Choose H38R: if you want substantially greater detail, a wider field of view and stronger performance as day-scope magnification increases.

MATE LITE vs H50R

The H50R moves to both a higher-resolution detector and a longer objective lens.

Sensor LITE: 384×288
H50R: 640×512
NETD Both ≤15mK
Refresh Rate Both 60Hz
Objective LITE: 38mm F1.0
H50R: 50mm F1.0
FOV @100m LITE: 12.3 × 9.2m
H50R: 15 × 11.5m

The H50R is aimed at customers wanting premium 640-resolution performance with more emphasis on longer-distance use.

LITE: accessible, straightforward thermal clip-on.

H50R: premium 640 option for customers working predominantly across larger open ground.

MATE LITE vs MATE ULTRA

The LITE and ULTRA sit at opposite ends of the current MATE family.

Sensor LITE: 384×288
ULTRA: 1280×1024
Pixel Pitch Both 12μm
NETD Both ≤15mK
Refresh Rate Both 60Hz
Objective LITE: 38mm F1.0
ULTRA: 60mm F1.0
FOV @100m LITE: 12.3 × 9.2m
ULTRA: 25.6 × 20.5m

The 1280×1024 ULTRA contains more than eleven times the number of native thermal pixels found in the LITE's 384×288 detector.

MATE LITE: designed to make the MATE platform accessible at a much lower price.

MATE ULTRA: flagship model for customers prioritising maximum image detail and performance under magnification.

What's in the Box?

The NocPix MATE LITE is supplied as the main thermal clip-on package with its standard operating and power accessories.

The unit uses a standard replaceable rechargeable 18650 battery.

The adaptor required to attach a thermal clip-on to a particular daytime riflescope depends on the outside diameter and design of that riflescope's objective housing. A universal riflescope adaptor should therefore not be assumed to fit every optic.

If you need an adaptor for your riflescope, contact Bamfords Online with the exact make and model and we can help identify the correct option.
